I have just spent a day setting up some projects to manage using activeCollab tool, which, as usual is free as freedom to use.
Many have heard of a web service called BaseCamp, which has become very popular amongst small companies for the purposes of managing projects and collaborating in (virtual) teams.
Today I tried out and am planning to continue using, activeCollab application which is BaseCamp, but free of charge and running on my own server where I can do with it whatever I want.
So far the tool has proven itself to work very well within the scope of work that I do usually (I tried BaseCamp and there is very little difference between the two in practical use).
I have already set three people up for using activeCollab on our projects and I cannot wait to see how they find the tool and what they think of it.
It has been a day spent in familiarising with some very interesting open source tools, one of which was also Zen Cart, which I am thinking about using for some of the projects which are emerging on the horizon now.
All in all it has been a productive day of getting more in-depth familiar with open source tools and community and working out, once again, that it has much to offer to society and digital world in general.
