Family Mosaic (Housing Association)
Flexewebs carried out an extensive business and IT project in order to enable Family Mosaic (Housing Association) to have their own dedicated modern employment training centre.
Service
Prince 2 project management and complete IT infrastructure development for an employment project.
Duration: 1 year
IT used: MS Office, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
Standards: Prince 2, W3C Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, Family Mosaic's internal guideline documents
Requirements
Create a modern and sustainable employment centre for Family Mosaic tenants as a separate business, supported by Family Mosaic
Challenges
Finding and negotiating premises for the employment centre to start with.
Furnishing the centre once the facility is found and equipping it with secure and robust IT network (in physical and software terms).
Creating a web site for the centre which would not only be used for informing clients about services, but as a revenue stream for the centre and Family Mosaic.
Delivering high quality training programmes in the centre and meeting the expected targets within a very short time period.
Formalising and structuring business processes for the long term maintenance and running of the centre (to be done in Prince 2 format).
Solutions
Flexewebs project managed the development of the center called "pathways2work".
IT hardware network was created with 6 PCs linked up via ethernet cables and 3 laptops on a wireless connection, enabling roaming Internet coverage throughout the centre.
Web site was created for the centre (pictured). It was an information point for the clients and an advertising board for partner organisations.
Intranet element of the web site allowed the team of 10 people (split up into 3 parts) to collaborate together virtually and remotely work on the project from their locations scattered around the city of London.
Detailed and well documented business processes were developed using Prince 2 methodology as standard. This enabled future staff to integrate into the project quickly and effectively.
Targets achieved were doubled as the use of IT speeded up otherwise slow and boring processes and enabled staff to work more efficiently. Over 50 hard-to-employ Family Mosaic tenants were placed into jobs in that year alone.
Partnerships were developed with external organisations, including: TNG, Badenoch & Clark, Morgan Hunt, Social Enterprise London, oneLondon, Southwark Council, Hyde Housing.
Launch event was successfully organised in order to promote the existence of the centre to organisations who could have had interest in the project.
Flexewebs worked directly on conceptualising branding for the centre with a designer who worked for McDonalds and Apple.
