Requirements
A company called Matt & George secured a contract from Howies to develop an e-commerce, dynamic PHP/MySQL web site which was to be integrated with Howies already existing back-end order processing system via specific and pre-defined XML-based data-models.
Flexewebs was called in to deliver the aspects of the system which were the most architecturally demanding and provide a dynamic solution to a business wide information challenge.
Challenges
Integrate existing Howies back-end processing system with the new e-commerce website comprising of an off-the-shelf shopping cart solution, bespoke CMS portions to the system, dynamic flash and databases in both XML and MySQL formats.
Import large amounts of various data including product details (along with pictures) and export order details in the XML format, ready to be downloaded by the back-end Howies system.
Solutions
Flexewebs developed the following aspects of the Howies web system:
XML-based middle-ware style interface which interacts with Howies bespoke back-end order processing system.
Online Blog with a WYSIWYG interface which is used by Howies staff in order to post Blogs onto Howies web site.
Integration of off-the-shelf shopping basket solution called JShop into the entire web site.
PHP scripts which were used for importing large amounts of data about products (including pictures) from an excel spread sheet (CSV files) into MySQL database through a push-button solution.
Order status update feature, with optional batch processing or URL-based individual order-update processing, all integrated with Howies back-end system and completed according to Howies format requirements.
