A major technical catch with blogs

Blogging is not actually as easy as it ought to be when it comes to work flows and the actual overall end product. Free has a catch to it in most cases.

While researching blogging options on the web we have come to a realisation that most blogging web sites have a downside for clients who are serious about their sites. There are two options for blogging on the web at the moment. We provide an overview of both.

1. Installed off-the-shelf solution
One of the options for blogging is to 'pick up' an off-the-shelf open source solution for blogging and install it (if you know how) onto your web site. Problems that could happen there are numerous, but the most prominent one is the issue of compatibility between the software and your server/host.

Another solution for an off-the-shelf blog is to buy a commercial blogging solution and hope to have all the functionality you need (of course the compatibility with your server has to be there), but the major problem is the fact that there is a price associated with it.

Some of the commercial solutions also are not designed for true blogging (i.e. using images in posts as well as text), but are rather made to work with text-only blog entries.

2. Blogging through existing blog sites
Blogging sites like blogger.com which we are using at the moment have got a downside of having an advertising portion on top of each of your blogs, which can be removed, but would need to be removed manually every time you publish your blog (a major hassle and requires technical knowledge).

Because of the above reasons, Flexewebs have decided to create their own blogging system which will be nicely integrated into Flexewebs CMS and which will provide the users of the CMS all the flexibility of a blog, but without any catches to it. Wish us luck in developing this solution. For now we will use blogger.com to blog our thoughts.
