I find myself more and more having to watch video material on the Internet, as switching through TV channels most of the time simply makes me frustrated that I cannot find anything interesting to watch on there.
Even the good old BBC News 24, which by and large I like to watch, can become tedious to watch as I do not have options to chose exactly what kind of news I want to watch and when.
Solution is that I switch to the Internet 'channel' and choose exactly what I want and when I want and I get to see those programs which are relevant.
Google already has Google video and have recently purchased the most popular video site on the Internet, YouTube.com.
With this combination of tools Google are set to become the most powerful media company on the planet (apart from being the most powerful and most extensive search engine, a knowledge machine and a small business application service provider).
These statements are slightly contrary to some of the views and discussions out there which speculate that Google is only trying to compliment mainstream TV services with its offerings.
Reality is that if most people are spending time and energy on watching material on line, the viewer base of the mainstream TV becomes smaller, taking away the 'zing' from TV and therefore the sponsorship from the advertising.
My prediction is that the mainstream TV will be a totally different beast altogether in one or two years from now, while Google will be the main provider of video content on the Internet and therefore of any kind of visual service.
